Avuncular DNA testing is a DNA test in which the aunts/uncles/nieces and nephews are tested in order to establish whether they are truly biologically related. This type of DNA test is normally done in place of a paternity DNA test. If the father is unavailable for testing, then testing his relatives is a means of establishing whether there is a biological relationship between father and child.
The avuncular test will show the DNA profiles of the uncle or aunt and their niece and nephew. The premise of the test is that if there is enough common genetic material between the people tested, then the uncle or aunt are in fact the biological relatives of the child, therefore suggesting that the alleged father is the true biological father of the child.
You may choose to test additional relatives, perhaps an aunt or uncle, at an added cost. We also recommend supplying us with the mother’s DNA sample so as to improve the result.
